Web projects at matrix

The web projects department at matrix designs, develops and supports, among other things, the MINTvernetzt platform mint-vernetzt.de, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, in a co-creative process. Paul Maier did his student internship in the field of web projects. He's not a blank slate when it comes to web development. He was introduced to programming by his grandfather in elementary school. Last year, after successfully participating in a CTF, one of the organizers drew his attention to +MINT and was subsequently able to get into the 3rd round, which he successfully passed. Since then he has been at the Birklehof boarding school, which is funded by the +MINT scholarship.
He became aware of matrix gGmbH through the MINTathon and reports on his time at matrix, his impression and his experiences:
As an intern, I was primarily part of the development team around Peter Holló. My first task was to develop a migration script that can be used to generate a list of all German states and counties. I initially developed in a separate repository of my own volition, but eventually my work was integrated into the main project via a pull request. My second task was to prepare the documentation website. As a framework I used docusaurus that I configured and modified. The resulting page can be found at developer.mint-vernetzt.de can be viewed, even if currently only the documentation for my own package can be found there alongside the placeholder text.
All in all, I can say that it was by far the best internship so far! I was able to do exactly what I love - which is programming - and also contribute to the development in a really meaningful way. I also had a lot of fun at the daily dev meetings and the week I was able to spend on site in Düsseldorf was probably one of the most exciting of my life. I also got to know a few new things, such as working together on GitHub and the new technologies like docusaurus. In addition, I have now had my first experiences with unit tests and was able to break down my prejudices against them.
But what is my plan for the future now? Well, I'm not exactly sure yet... I really want to study, but there are so many possibilities... I could imagine everything from classical computer science to web development to cyber security and it's going to be extremely difficult to make a decision . Thanks to my internship, I was able to gain a better insight into the day-to-day work of a web developer. I can already say that web development is definitely a realistic option as a career.
