Overview of STEM education: What about STEM education in Germany?
STEM education experts: inside the matrix at the Körber-Dialog STEM regions 2021
What about STEM education in this country? What is going well, where is it stuck? And above all: What will be important in the future? The exchange of actors from politics, science, business and practice at this year's Körber Dialog MINT Regions on April 26 gives a good overview of STEM education in Germany.
As zdi state office and experts for MINT education, we have contributed 15 years of experience to this overview of MINT education - from supporting regional networks to successful communication work.
Magdalena Hein, project manager zdi-NRW and member of the management team at matrix, moderated the lunch talk between Dr. Ekkehart Winter, Managing Director of the Deutsche Telekom Foundation and co-spokesman for the National MINT Forum, and science YouTuber Jacob Beautemps on the opportunities of digitization in MINT education, the important levers of enthusiasm among girls for MINT and the importance of considering diversity in STEM education.
Arne Klauke, Communication and community expert as well as member of the management team at matrix, reported on the experiences in building the zdi community. Using best practice examples in the workshop together with Birgit Rothenfels and Alexander Kutschera, he demonstrated the added value of a healthy community. Exemplary personas and community canvas were created in the workshop. You support the establishment and expansion of communities.
In more than half of all discussions and workshops in the Körber Dialog, actors from the zdi community were active as speakers or moderators. According to Klaus Kaiser, Parliamentary State Secretary of the NRW Ministry of Science, zdi is the largest network for the promotion of young MINT talent in Europe. Kaiser reported enthusiastically about zdi.NRW: “We started a success story with zdi over 15 years ago. Since then, we have been networking young people with science and business across the country. With our offers, we create opportunities for schoolchildren to deal with scientific and technical phenomena. "
The nationwide conference was realized by the Amber-Stiftung, the Ministry of Culture and Science and the National STEM Forum as an online event. Its aim was to network MINT makers from all over Germany. Political discussion rounds were supplemented by practical workshops - in order to bring decision-makers and practitioners into conversation with one another.
The film also sheds light on the current state of STEM education “Into the future with MINT? Why science and technology are becoming more and more important ", which premiered at the event. Personalities such as the science journalist Ranga Yogeshwar, Joachim Lachmuth from Sendung mit der Maus, Dr. Ekkehart Winter from the Deutsche Telekom Foundation and Magdalena Hein, project manager at zdi-NRW, share their assessment and perspective on MINT education and MINT funding. In this way they illustrate their importance for the future. The film was produced by matrix media creation.
