Student internship at matrix: Finn reports
Hi, my name is Finn, I am 15 and a student intern at the matrix.
I'm doing my two-week student internship here and after nine days I already have a good overview of what the matrix actually does. The zdi project, which matrix is allowed to support as the state office for the NRW Ministry of Science, aims to inspire students for the MINT subjects, i.e. mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology, and to give them an overview of the relevant professional and study areas to get. For this purpose, courses are held in over 40 networks and 60 school laboratories, for example. In addition, as the regional office, matrix organizes barcamps and other events and takes care of the management and content creation on the various social media platforms.
In addition to the zdi project, I also got a brief insight into the Next Career project. The project deals with the topics of "study doubts, changing and dropping out". Barcamps are also held within the project.
A bar camp is a special event format. At the beginning there is a round in which topics and questions on a main topic are collected. Then every participant can go to the session whose topic interests them. A barcamp thrives on the suggestions that the participants make. Everyone can switch between the sessions taking place at the same time. If there are several topics, there are accordingly many rounds. The barcamp I was there dealt with dropping out and having doubts about studying. For me this is not a current topic, but it was still interesting to learn a little bit about it.
During my internship, I looked into many of the tasks on the social media team. Among other things, I designed puzzles - you have to find fruit here, for example.
I also learned a lot about video editing. That was what I enjoyed the most because I always wanted to do it. I also got an impression of how much effort is put into such a YouTube video.
I also found out about possible influencer collaborations and attended two events. I accompanied the photographer on one. In the second week of the internship I took part in a meeting to plan a zdi event. That was also very exciting because the topic addressed me and z. B. a robot should take over the moderation.
Overall, the internship was very varied and it was fun to go to work for two weeks. All matrix employees are super nice. So you can do your internship here very well if you are also interested in media? Of course there are also many other areas in the matrix.
