matrix supports project on conflict management in municipalities
In order to further develop participation and integration in municipalities in a constructive manner, the state-wide coordination office for municipal integration centers, or LaKI for short, has started the project “Promote municipal conflict management”. matrix accompanies this project in that Werner Pfeifenroth, consultant and mediator, supports municipalities in the introduction of conflict management systems.
The aim is to train conflict managers in 16 municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia who help on site in conflicts that arise in the context of immigration and integration. In parallel, external mediators are trained. You are available as an advisor to one or more municipalities. Werner Pfeifenroth will support the Hamm Municipal Integration Center (KI) in the development and implementation of a municipal conflict management system over the next two and a half years. “As a mediator, this is a very exciting field: On the one hand, there are the structures of municipalities that have grown for decades. On the other hand, we have the needs of people who have fled to Germany out of need and who need concrete, quick help. "
Enable participation
How do municipalities manage to identify conflicts at an early stage so that they do not escalate? Which control mechanisms can be built into the urban structures? What to do if conflicts have already arisen - who helps, who can mediate? The conflict managers in the municipalities must be able to answer these questions and establish a system for dealing with refugees in order to ensure that everyone can sustainably participate in social life.
The Mercator Foundation in Duisburg is funding the project, in which, in addition to the LaKI, the Academy of the Ruhr University Bochum is also involved. The municipal representatives and mediators take part in a further training course to learn about municipal conflict management. The project runs until the end of 2019.
